Twitter had officially announced its entry into the MENA region on Sunday, unveiling a partnership with local business Connect Ads.

The San Francisco-based company has chosen the Connect Ads as its official partner for the region where it will collaborate with Twitter’s own sales team, the two firms announced at a press conference in Dubai.

Shailesh Rao, Twitter’s vice president of international operations said: “We are excited to launch Twitter’s Promoted Products in the Arab region, one of Twitter’s fastest-growing regions, and where we continue to see users coming to Twitter to get closer to things they care about.

“This partnership is in line with our strategy which is now focused on building out our international presence.” said Rao.

Rao argued that since the method used by Twitter to promote brands, involved conversations rather than static images, the reach of the methodology was much greater than traditional methods of advertising. He claimed that the engagement rate in the form of clicks or other modes of communication on such campaigns was 1% to 3%, placing it in the region of 10 to 30 times more effective than traditional advertising.

Connect Ads is a pioneering Digital Advertising Solutions Provider in the MENA region and a subsidiary of OTVentures, a leading digital and technology solutions provider for both online and mobile platforms and an affiliate of Orascom Telecom, Media & Technology

Number of active Twitter users in the Middle East has tripled in the last year as per – Sales Ops Team @Twitter.

Twitter has exploded onto the social media scene since its launch in 2006, with an active user base in excess of 200 million people.
