As we reported earlier this week, on May 23-24, 2014 the Cribb organized and hosted AngelHack Dubai, an event that is part of
the largest hackathon series in the world. The Dubai Angelhack event witnessed:
- 100 attendees (40 overnighters)
- 23 teams
- 5 tech workshops
- 9 winning prizes from seed funding in Dubai to innovative devices to a soft landing in Silicon Valley
For the US community numbers might seem not that high, but for Dubai it was a huge progress–23 projects in just one night! The teams worked very hard, brainstorming with each other, attending workshops; some of them didn’t even sleep. And some teams did, using The Cribb’s beanbags and sleeping bags.
The Cribb team hosted a social media competition , with the two people who tweeted the most using hashtag #AngelHackDubai and account handle @TheCribb, won the innovative device Samsung Gear Fit. This ensured alot of activity on Twitter (and Instagram) — some people tweeted every minute.
The AngelHack Dubai team included:
Kamrin Klauschie – Global Marketing & Community Manager, AngelHack, US;
Ratish Narayanan – regional Ambassador in Asia, AngelHack, US;
Sameer Sortur – Manager of Operations, Innovation 360, UAE;
Asiya Shakirova – Manager of WOW! Projects, Innovation 360, UAE;
Ahmer Kazi – Sales Support Manager, Innovation 360, UAE.
Results of the competition:
- Moonbeam won the HackAccelerator Grand Prize
- Moonbeam, Scribill, Box6 and Social AP (AccessPoint) won TURN8 pre-qualification to enter DP World’s seed accelerator with an investment of USD $30K per team.
- Pixelbug prize for internship for 3-months worth $10k went to Wafaa Ayish of Cart-It! who demonstrated a shopping cart to be integrated in the future with iBeacon.
