Initially the trial will be done in areas accessible to its 100 new 4G (LTE) towers, whose locations includeWestBay, Souq Waqif, Sealine,Al Waab Street, Katara, Corniche andAspirePark. The project will deploy nearly 900 Base Stations across the country in a span of 3 years.

Qtel is expected to announce the commercial launch of 4G network in Q1, 2013

LTE offers data speeds of more than 100 megabits per second – more than double the fastest connection offered by the existing 3G service. In Qatar, the service will provide customers with expected downlink speeds of up to 150 Mbps for a broad range of services, including high-definition (HD) video on demand, interactive gaming, Mozaic TV and high-bandwidth content.

In the Middle East region UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman are the only countries to launch the 4G networks. However, the network coverage is not widely available in these countries.
