Twitter gets a Facelift with Header and new features

Twitter the online Social networking and microblogging service gets its first huge facelift. This is the first such facelift since it was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey.

Yesterday Twitter announced the biggest change since their launch in 2006 by introducing a “Header” which is similar to a Cover Photo on Facebook. This new feature is visible to anyone who visits your profile from a Mobile device or over the Web. There are new tabs in the top bar where you can discover latest trends and visit your profile with a click.

Although Twitter had a few tweaks to “Larry the Bird” named after Larry Bird of the NBA’s Boston Celtics fame and launched its third logo redesign which replaced Larry the Bird with an icon simply named as the “Twitter Bird” and became the sole logo.

With over 500 million active users (June 2012), twitter generates over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries everyday. It has become a part of social life.

With the widespread use of Social Media Marketing in the Middle East region, this upgrade shall benefit the upcoming and existing brands on Twitter that can make full use of this feature to promote themselves or their Products to their followers. Banks, Telecoms and Airlines brand, which are now exploring the online social world in the region can make the best use of “Header” to reach out to their followers on twitter and we may probably get to see some great advertising.

You can now show more than your profile picture to your followers on Twitter and the changes can be made either from a mobile device or web itself.

Not only this, but there are some other changes as well including photo streams that can be viewed below a recent Tweet on iPhone, Android and iPad, and can be swiped through to see the photos of other users.

What is your take on the above? Will you be now having a new header often?
