Saudi Arabia Proposes An eCommerce Law

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently released a draft for the first eCommerce law in the country.

The eCommerce market share in Saudi Arabia will hit $13.3 billion in 2015, according to research published by a Dubai-based web design and development company.Saudi Arabia is getting closer to this target, with the kingdom’s online retail expected to account for up to eight percent of its total retail market in 2015, leaving the US (7.1 percent), Japan (6.8 percent) and France (6.7 percent) behind.

Last year a local publication,, Asharq Al-Awsat published an article which stated that the Ministry was making “serious moves” in this direction and that there was currently ongoing coordination between the Ministry and a number of other official bodies in the Kingdom to integrate activities across the board.

Below is an infographic released by Payfort that gives a top level summary of the proposed law.
